SUMMER INTERNSHIPS (2 types) (generally May –September):

(1) Outdoor Leader Internship:

The Outdoor Leader internship position emphasizes outdoor adventure leadership and the related administration and logistics of wilderness canoeing, kayaking and backpacking trips.

  •   Wilderness adventure execution
  •   Group facilitation and integration
  •   Gear and food preparation and logistical planning
  •   Participant and gear transportation
  •   Equipment and warehouse maintenance
  •   Pre and post trip evaluation

Outdoor Leadership Interns usually act as assistant leaders working closely with primary trip leaders. Interns often act as secondary leaders as well, depending upon staffing needs and intern experience level.

100% of time spent on outdoor leadership and related tasks.

(2) Outdoor Leader Internship (with Administrative Emphasis):

This position is similar to the Outdoor Leader position (see above), however, the administrative emphasis allows time to be allotted for opportunities in the office (based upon the individual academic requirements of the intern). Opportunities include specific projects in areas such as outreach and marketing, research, evaluation, volunteer coordination and special events. Ideas for projects are welcomed and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Outdoor leadership comprises 75% of the time and special projects/administrative experience 25% of the time.

Wilderness Inquiry is an equal opportunity employer.
