| SUMMER INTERNSHIPS (2
types) (generally May –September):
(1) Outdoor Leader Internship:
The Outdoor Leader internship position emphasizes outdoor adventure
leadership and the related administration and logistics of wilderness
canoeing, kayaking and backpacking trips.
- Wilderness adventure execution
- Group facilitation and integration
- Gear and food preparation and logistical planning
- Participant and gear transportation
- Equipment and warehouse maintenance
- Pre and post trip evaluation
Outdoor Leadership Interns usually act as assistant leaders working
closely with primary trip leaders. Interns often act as secondary
leaders as well, depending upon staffing needs and intern experience
level.
100% of time spent on outdoor leadership and related tasks.
(2) Outdoor Leader Internship (with Administrative Emphasis):
This position is similar to the Outdoor Leader position (see above),
however, the administrative emphasis allows time to be allotted
for opportunities in the office (based upon the individual academic
requirements of the intern). Opportunities include specific projects
in areas such as outreach and marketing, research, evaluation, volunteer
coordination and special events. Ideas for projects are welcomed
and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Outdoor leadership comprises 75% of the time and special projects/administrative
experience 25% of the time.
